Executing a Test Run
The run detail page shows your selected test cases grouped by suite. Execution happens in a split-view drawer so testers can move quickly without losing context.
Starting a run
- Open the run and click Start/Continue Test Run.
- The first
Untestedcase opens in the drawer with steps, historical executions, linked defects, and requirements. - Use keyboard shortcuts or the navigation footer to jump between cases.
Recording results
Within the drawer you can:
- Update status – Mark the current execution as Passed, Failed, Blocked, Skipped, or any custom status configured for test runs.
- Capture results – Provide a rich-text result summary, attach files/screenshots, or log timing information.
- Log per-step outcomes – For each step capture status, notes, and attachments. Step groups stay intact so reusable components remain consistent.
- Track time – A timer records actual time spent; closing the drawer saves the total automatically.
- Add comments – Discuss findings with teammates without leaving the run.
- Link or create defects – Open the defect panel to file a new defect (with attachments) or link an existing external issue. The defect inherits the test case context.
Managing executions
- Re-run – Create a fresh execution for the same case when fixes land or additional validation is required. History is preserved so analytics show pass-after-fail trends.
- Attachments – Drag-and-drop evidence at the execution or step level; thumbnails are available immediately.
- External links – Reference tickets, logs, or dashboards via quick links.
- Automation parity – Automated runs show imported step results and timing, letting testers review machine-executed evidence.
Completing the run
- The progress bar updates as statuses change; filters let you focus on failures or untested cases.
- Once all required cases are executed, mark the run as Completed. The run becomes read-only, preserving evidence and timestamps for audits.
- Exports and analytics update instantly so stakeholders can see pass/fail rates, remaining defects, and time spent.
